Euro 2024: Germany off to a Breezing Start
Germany beats Scotland in Euro 2024 opener
Hosts Germany couldn’t have asked for a better start as they started the Euro 2024 tournament with a comfortable 5-1 win over 10 man Scotland.

Not that Scotland threatened Germany at any time. To put it into perspective, Germany were already 2-0 up, when Scotland were reduced to 10 men. Goals by Wirtz and the Germans star boy Musiala in the 10th and 19th minutes put Germany on the road to victory in their Euro 2024 opener.
In the 40th minute, Porteous extended challenge on Gundogan was adjudged to be a penalty after VAR review.
Despite winning the ball, he was sent off for dangerous play. Kai Havertz stepped for the penalty kick and sent Scotland keeper the wrong way for a Germany 3-0 lead. What a colorful start in their Euro 2024 title quest.
Fulkrug then made it 4-0 after a beautiful Musiala run down the left. Musiala found Gundogan who spilled it to Fullkrug. The attacker fired it to the top corner to bury Scotland. Later Fulkrug made it 5-1, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
However, Scotland refused to go out without a shout as they pulled one back later in the game. This time, Germany showed rare weakness in defense as they were caught in a swift counter attack after a free kick.
When the ball found McKenna in the box from Roberson, he flicked a swift header. Rudiger tried to clear the ball, but it ended up in the net to give Scotland a consolation.
As the last minute beckoned, Arsenal’s Kai Havertz unselfishly laid the ball to Emre Can, who made no mistake to make it an emphatic 5-1 win for the hosts.
To progress, Scotland will have to up their game in the next two matches otherwise, they book an early plane home.
For the hosts, it was what the doctor ordered for a Euro 2024 tournament start, and the home fans will go home satisfied that they can have valid dreams.
