Brazil & Colombia in a Tense 1-1 Draw in COPA America
The intense Copa America group stage showdown between rivals Brazil and Colombia ended in a thrilling 1-1 draw, but suspensions and fatigue may now hamper Brazil, as they face a tough quarterfinal test against Uruguay.

Dorival Jr.’s Brazil side faced a tricky test against Colombia in their final group stage clash at the Copa America.
Both teams were locked in an entertaining battle from the opening whistle in front of raucous fans at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes in Cรณrdoba.
Raphinha gave Brazil an early dream start, floating a perfect free kick past Colombia’s wall.
But Los Cafeteros grew into the COPA match with James Rodrรญguez controlling tempo from midfield.
His creative playsetting up John Cordoba to drill home the equalizer on the stroke of half.
Dorival made a switch at the break, bringing off Lucas Paquetรก who struggled to make an impact.
But Brazil still found it hard to generate chances without strikers Gabriel Jesus and Richarlison available. Vinicius Jr came closest but was denied by keeper Camilo Vargas.
Colombia took the initiative in the second half. While James crafted opportunities, their finishing fell short. Brazil’s best hope came from Andreas Pereira’s late shot tipped over superbly by Vargas.
Both sides now head to the COPAquarterfinals, but two yellows for Vinicius means he’s suspended for Brazil’s clash with Group F winners Uruguay. Colombia face Panama with hopes of replicating their intensity to reach the semis.
Questions remain if Dorival pushed his squad too far in the Copa heat.
Can Brazil recover to outlast Uruguay’s well-rested squad? Only time will tell if their fighting spirit can power them to a title defense.
This Brazil v Colombia COPA clash was always going to be fiery given their long rivalry. From the first hard tackle, you could see the passion and pride these teams wanted to show.
Raphinha’s goal got Brazil supporters in a frenzy. But Colombia’a faithful never stopped cheering, spurring their boys on to attack.
James was at the heart of it all, constantly twisting and turning Brazil’s defense into pretzels.
When Cordoba smashed home the equalizer right before half, even this jaded reporter had to admit it was a beauty.
Both fanbases were in full voice by the final whistle after 45′ of end-to-end action.
The second half remained just as intense under the scorching Cรณrdoba sun. Vinicius danced in and out of holes but that stingy Colombia rear guard wouldn’t budge.
At the other end, Vargas was a one-man wall, pulling off a late worldie to deny Pereira a win.

Make no mistake – this COPA matchup always brings the drama. But suspension means Vinicius will be missed dearly by Brazil.
Their fans are now anxiously awaiting the Uruguay clash, hoping fatigue doesn’t become a factor after the twins’ extra rest day.
As for Colombia, they’ve proven themselves amongst the Copa’s form teams. But can they take that next step and finally get over the hump to a major final?
Their talent deserves at least a semifinal berth if the chances start flowing once more.
Two titanic nations left it all on the pitch. But for Brazil, the toughest test may still be ahead in their defense of โAmerica’s Cup glory. Only time will tell how much fuel remains in the tank…
