Premier League: Arsenal Seal 3rd Place as Man City Win
Premier League: Arsenal Seal 3rd Place as Man City Win
The Premier league title race failed to take a twist as first Arsenal, and then Manchester City won their matches today. Liverpool could only draw with West Ham, to all but hope next season will be better.
In the early kick off, Arsenal produced a first half master class to lead 3-0 at half time. But, with better finishing, they could have got more goals. Hojbjerg turned Bukayo Saka’s excellent corner kick into his own net in the 15th minute.
In the 27th minute, Bukayo Saka scored in a swift counter attack after a Tottenham corner, as Spurs were crying for a futile penalty. Another corner led to a Havertz header goal, for a 3-0 half time lead.
In the second half, Arsenal keeper David Raya showed why many Arsenal followers and soccer fans don’t believe he is a top goalkeeper. Under no pressure, he waited and brought Spurs back into the match by passing to two Spurs players near the 18 yard box.
Spurs Romero coolly said “thank you Raya” with a sublime finish to make it 1-3 in the 64th minute. Arsenal conceded a penalty in the 87th minute to bring the match to a nervy close at 2-3.
The win gave Arsenal 80 points, 1 point ahead of City, and 5 ahead of Liverpool in third. It means Arsenal can’t finish lower than third, even if they lose their remaining 3 matches.
Later Manchester City kept up the chase and are on course for the title if they keep winning. They led 1-0 by half time at Nottingham forest through Gvadiol on that 32nd minute.
Forest pressure City but failed to score. Haaland came on later to score in the 71St minute. The win left City with 79 points, 1 point behind Arsenal with a game in hand.
